Aylia's last experience with her mother was somewhat less than mutually pleasing, but she hadn't even considered that this might have far-reaching consequences to change the dynamics of their long-term relationship.  Aylia has always been the one complaining, and trying to escape from her mother's clinginess, yet now . . . Lettie is basically disowning her.  That's got to feel uncomfortably weird, to suddenly have the feeling mutual when she's used to being the one rejecting.
