I'm actually on Alassa's side here.  Which is an . . . unusual place to be.  Granted, she's being a bit cruel in her wording, but Lettie really does not get the message unless someone's at least a little harsh with her.  Alassa's gotten annoyed with her mother over little things all the time, of course, just like Aylia does, but this is the first time she's really been at odds with her mother over something huge -- so this is as devastating to Lettie as Aylia's saying no the previous year.
