Aylia's parents got married after only having known each other two months.  That was . . . something of a bad choice on both their parts, obviously.  Lettie still wants to believe she has the perfect marriage and perfect family, so she refuses to admit there's anything wrong with any of the relationships in it (such as, say, the fact that her older daughter finds her frustrating, and her younger daughter despises everybody).  Once again, for Lettie, romance wins out over reality.
