Actually, the Gorgon was at Felincia's birthday party last year, not Loretta's, but Aylia's superb memory for spells does not always extend to barely-interesting-to-her social situations.  Either way, Loretta was there last time the Gorgon came to a birthday party before, and dimly remembers her, and Loretta's attitude right now is basically "The more the merrier!  Sure!"  And meanwhile, Aylia's looking for an excuse to convince the Gorgon to talk to her again.
