I knew I wanted to make moving in interesting, but I didn't know everything about how that would happen till I actually got to this storyline.  Like many story arcs, I start out with generalities, but ignore most details till I actually get to them.  The previous strip came naturally as a start to this storyline, and the key in this strip sprang naturally from that.  I remember when I got the key to my first college dorm room, how excited I was . . . thought, of course, I didn't act quite as insanely as Daria.  :P
