I've always known Corinn was the middle child of his family, so his explanation in these first two panels didn't surprise me in the least.  King Richard and Queen Tilia were much more relaxed in training their "backup heir" than Aylia's grandfather was, so Albert didn't grow up with the same resentful complex Corinn did; in addition, Albert's pretty amiable and anxious to please, while Corinn was generally sour, sarcastic, and disobedient.  Still, that didn't explain why he avoids Umbria now . . .
