Elan and Kurthan travel to a few other countries, him teaching at a number of different places until he finally settles down in a position that only demands he teach the equivalent of graduate students. Dragoria is very happy to have him teaching the future generals of their military, though Elan is somewhat less impressed to find that half her fathers' students look down on them because they're nonhuman.
An adult now, she travels back to the lands of the desert clan, joining the high-class military of a rival nation from the one where she and her father originated. She becomes a dangerous assassin, taking down only non-civilians, and she earns the ire of quite a few people in high places. She eventually gets killed on one of her many missions -- leaving behind a father who is enraged. Kurthan leaves his position the next day, heads right back to desert clan lands, and goes off to avenge his daughter. He systematically tracks down everybody who was rival to his daughter, and then goes after everybody who'd had anything to do with his wife's death, for good measure. While he is in the middle of this, X blows up her research laboratory. He is the one who evacuates the entire facility (at swordpoint), and then helps her escape. He's only too pleased at the idea of taking down a rival technology that would make his sword-wielding obsolete. |
