Busy human parents have to worry about their children running off in four directions.  Busy mermaid parents have to worry about their children swimming away in six.  Add to this the fact that living underwater means occasionally needing to swim very, very fast to get away from hungry predators, and you can see why it is necessary for parents of young children to be able to yank them along whether or not they're in the middle of throwing a large fit.  Unfortunately . . .
