Look!  I came up with a thin excuse to give Elan a front view!  (Chuckles.)  Seriously, though, this does seem like a plausible scenerio -- desert clan swords are intended for a great deal of use in battle, not for goofing off or decoration, and there always a lot of desert clan wars raging, so swordmakers would have a great deal of practice with these.  Elan's father used to be a mercenary, so he knows high class workmanship, and his family believes in giving "only the best" as gifts.
