Bet this wasn't quite what you expected, was it?  (Mischievous grin.)  But just think about it: Mordran's parents instantly jump to assuming that any mermaid must be a "hoodlum."  They're so opposed to inappropriate matchmaking that they refuse to believe any possibility besides "our son has led the innocent princess astray."  And now they're being faced with the implication of a human/black fairy crossbreed possibly existing!  Of course they can't face the thought of such a horrifying disgrace.
