The funny thing is, Davin's chiefest ally is the one least bothered at the idea of him leaving.  Relagor thinks it's great to see his older brother moving off to join a "real pack," much cooler than the pack their family has formed.  He's pretty much always assumed they'd all grow up and go off in their separate directions eventually, which is not an idea that's occurred to everybody (such as six-year-old Helda, who doesn't even like Davin, but can't stand the idea of him leaving).
