Linnea is a very logical, linnear thinker.  So when her likeable-but-crazy roommate has gone berserk, her first priority quite naturally becomes "to calm that maniac down."  The most obvious path toward that outcome is to find the missing sword, and Linnea has a magical library right at her fingertips.  Fortunately, she's also sane enough to have no wish to experiment with tricky spells she doesn't know well (after all, magic can do odd things when it goes haywire).  And she doesn't mind asking for help.
