Since this teacher was a friend of Aylia's grandfather, he got to know Jorkan's sons while they were at the wizarding school.  He thought Richard was a bit stodgy and dull, but tolerable enough.  Joralan, who was stuck up and kind of acted like a sycophant around him, really got on his nerves.  But he found Corinn, the sarcastic and rebellious son, quite delightful.  Aylia's attitude and personality remind him of the things he most liked about Corinn, so of course he's miffed that her dad was Joralan.
