Of course, Felincia is no "damsel in distress" -- the female gender role in werewolf culture requires just as much toughness and strength of will as the male.  For instance, both males and females join in hunting -- they do play slightly different roles, but one is not considered weaker than the other.  The alpha male leads the pack, while the alpha female runs either beside him or right behind him.  Usually the alpha female is wife of the alpha male, and the alpha male is chosen in part because of his wife's eligibility for that position.
