An Oracle's visions are often random and vague and hard to control, because they're about the future, and there's rarely much specific in the future that has become set in stone by past events.  But with Sages, the problem tends to be the reverse -- there's so much past they can see, it becomes major information overload.  Imagine having the entire Internet at your fingertips -- with no search engine.  Even with intense training, it can be easy for Sages to miss huge or obvious things, if they never think to look.
