There is one of the Gorgon societies that's matriarchal: among the theocratical mountain clan Gorgons, the women rule.  But in the anarchic ocean clan Gorgon societies, neither gender rules the other, and the Gorgon desert clans tend towards patriarchy, though the degree of it depends on which country you look at.  Elan and Kurthan came from a country that favors its men, being a warrior society, but still allows its females to learn combat, if they wish to.
