Edwardine and Letitia are equally to blame for having such a miserable experience as the baby-sitter and baby-sat.  Edwardine was certainly stricter than necessary, and not entirely nice, since she found Lettie irritating.  But Lettie was . . . well, think "Calvin and Rosalyn" from Calvin and Hobbes, and that should give you some idea.  (Not that I'm trying to make my comic strip at all like that one, much as I like it -- that's just the best comparison that comes to mind for this situation.)
