The way Edwardine sees things, Lettie is now indirectly at fault for Jenny getting married so young, which is not something Edwardine is happy about.  She's also never liked Letitia's irresponsibility, so she hates the idea of Letitia having more of an effect on her daughter than she gets to, since Jenny is now living in another world and avoiding her.  So she's taking out a lot of her pent-up resentment about Jenny on Letitia, which of course only makes Letitia dislike her more: a lose-lose situation.
