I won't tell you what role he's going to play in the future, but I will say that he's not a romantic interest for any character we knew already, and that's one of the main reasons I let him seize his chunk of the plot.  Romantic interests are fun and all, but I've noticed that the only reocurring male character in our world that hasn't been a brother, father, or romantic interest has been Professor Witzig, and that's pretty pathetic.  It was time to introduce a guy who wasn't any of those!
