Remember that sword Lionel's holding?  It's the one X gave Loretta for her birthday in Strip #820.  I figured it would have to do something magical, since it was a birthday present, so X must have put more effort into it than, say, those three swords she made Loretta at once in Strip #411.  And knowing X, I could think of one particular magical power she'd be willing to put lots of effort into perfecting!  There's no reason she couldn't have fun watching Loretta use the sword, after all.
