Loretta and Reg have always had a "buddy" type of relationship.  A lot of times in stories, you'll find a girl who hangs out with guys angsting about being considered "one of the guys" because she have a crush on one of them, and he doesn't think of her as a girl.  Sure, that does happen in real life, but it's way overdone in stories.  I never had a crush on any of my guy friends in school -- they were always just friends.  That's how things are with Loretta and Reg.
