Aylia's reaction is exactly the same as mine would have been, in her position -- except that I wouldn't have the ability to fix such a disaster.  In a way, this series is both confronting a worst fear and wish-fulfilment -- if I had the ability to grow hair as long as I wanted to at will, you can my hair would be as long as Aylia's!  And it would stay that way, too.  I've always wanted hair long enough to reach my ankles.
